Day 45 - Chattanooga TN to East Ellijay GA 72.5 miles, 5:38

Yea, that's a mountain all right. And not to be outdone, the north Georgia mountains took a bite today out of the Christ aCross America convenient store ministry. Ouch.

Having left out of east Chattanooga this morning, we crossed over our second-to-last state line - with only the Florida line remaining in just seven days from now.

Our first 30 miles were pretty suburban along US Hwy 41 into Dalton, GA. Then the climb, it was about eight or nine miles up at 6-mph. We spent another three or four miles up in the mountain doing the Missouri Roller Coaster and then, relished the 8-mile descent into Ellijay, GA at 40+ mph. Awesome.

Today's ride is one of the handful of rides that I will look back on and really hope to do again someday.

I rode past this "Twice the Ice" machine this morning on Hwy 41, and my eyes almost popped out of my head. You see, I know the owner of the company. He's Fred Carlson, a brother-in-Christ and a friend. I knew that he was developing these little, 24-hour, self-contained ice vending machines all over Florida, but I didn't know that he's in Georgia too. That's great.

My connection to Fred is through C12. He is a member, who for more than a year now has sat in our group and shared with us how he is making his entire company more on-purpose for Christ.

Well, it was on purpose for me today, as just the sight of my brother Fred's Ice House up here in Georgia reminded me clearly of the impact that C12 is making across America and in the world.

The thought for the day: your thoughts.

You've all heard of the bestseller The Secret, right? Well, it purports that our thoughts are somehow broadcast into the universe, heard by some mystical forces, and sent back to us, thus creating our reality. Wow.

Now, I'll tell you the real secret (it's not all that secret). I learned it at age 12 and then waited 24 more years to really understand it.

Jesus Christ is the Lord of everything. King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6 (NIV)

You can think your thoughts into all the universe, but until those thoughts serve the risen Lord, they will serve you only here on this Earth, and only for a short, short time.

Christ sums up "the secret" I want you to hear from me today:

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 7:7-12 (NIV)
